1. Is the wastewater consumption charge being retroactively applied?

No. While the wastewater consumption charge was originally supposed to be applied as of January 2018, it was not applied to customer invoices until October 1, 2018. The City of Wetaskiwin is not retroactively charging ratepayers for the months the charge was not levied.

2. How can I ensure the utility increases are affordable?

The current fee structure allows ratepayers to control the amount they are billed by moderating their water consumption. This means that the less water you use, the less you will have to pay. There are many ways to begin conserving water, including shortening your showers and not letting the water run while brushing your teeth. Read more water saving tips.

3. Why has my utility bill amount skyrocketed?

If you have noticed a large change in your utility bill amount, we suggest you take the following steps:

• compare your water use from the current bill to previous bills received
• if there is a large increase in water consumption, begin checking for household leaks
• If no leaks are present, begin thinking about ways to reduce your water consumption (which will directly impact your bill)

4. What if I have my own septic system?

We are currently reviewing all our customer files to ensure we are not billing for wastewater consumption if a customer is not connected to a City sewer line.
