[ARCHIVED] Rehabilitation of 40 Ave and 47 St.

construction.jpg

The rehabilitation of 40 Avenue & 47 Street is being monitored by McElhanney Consulting Services on behalf of the City. Construction began Monday, July 30, and is estimated to be complete by mid-September (2018).

To accommodate the construction, the intersection of 40 Avenue and 47 Street has been shut down. Signs have been placed at the preceding intersections with detour information. A map showing the detour routing is attached below. We ask that you only detour to the south on 47 Street to access local business and do not use Range Road 241 as a detour to travel from west to east.

The water main has been replaced and will be active next week, pending testing. Repairs to the storm and sanitary sewers are underway. Backfilling of trenches used for water replacement are also underway.

While we are happy with the progress seen to date, some unexpected issues have occurred with the water installation. There is also a possibility of issues occurring with the storm repairs. Crews are working diligently to complete construction and reopen the intersection as soon as possible. We are still currently estimating construction completion on September 15, 2018. The intersection will be reopened to one-way traffic prior to completion. We ask that you continue to avoid the intersection as best as possible at this time to minimize traffic hazards to workers. The City of Wetaskiwin will continue to send updates on the schedule as the project progresses.

The City understands how this type of project can affect your business and is committed to make this reconstruction project as painless as possible. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
