Mayor Tyler Gandam has issued a statement on the occasion of the National Day of Mourning:
Every April 28, the National Day of Mourning honours the memory of workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered illness as a result of their work.
Even one workplace injury or death is far too much. We all have the reasonable expectation to come home safe from work at the end of our day.
Today, we remember those who have been killed, injured, or became ill due to their work. It leaves families and individuals with a tremendous loss. We must move forward with a commitment to protecting workers and preventing further workplace tragedies.
