The Utilities Department's role is:
to provide a safe and reliable water supply and wastewater services to its citizens
to ensure Wetaskiwin's drinking water meets all regulatory and health standards
to ensure that wastewater effluent discharged to the environment complies with all federal and provincial environmental standards
Utilities are funded entirely from utility rates, therefore the system has no direct contribution from taxes.
The Utilities Department is responsible for:
the operation and maintenance of the surface water plant, transmission main, two water pump houses and reservoirs, three sewer lift stations, a blower house and a wastewater treatment facility
the operation, maintenance, and repair of all related underground infrastructure including approximately 110 kilometres of water mains, 96 kilometres of sewer mains, and 51 kilometres of storm sewer mains
plan for and responds to water, sanitary sewer and storm water emergencies in an efficient manner
help accommodate growth and new demand within the city
respond to customer inquiries, requests and concerns such as water in basements, storm water on roads, requests to turn water off or on, clear blockages
repair sanitary sewer services and mains
operate and maintain the City’s fire hydrants.
