Community Clean Up
Wetaskiwin's Fall 2017 Community Clean Up is taking place from Saturday, September 30 to Monday, October 9, 2017. If we each take just 20 minutes to clean up around our home, business, school, etc., it will make a difference. Here are the Spring Clean Up details:

  • Free Landfill Use
During Fall Clean Up Week, residents can use the landfill for no charge!
Extended hours of operation are in effect Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (October 5, 6 & 7) for the landfill, which will run from 9:30 am until 6:30 pm those days. Otherwise, the normal hours of operation for the landfill is 9:30 am until 5:30 pm. Please note the landfill is closed Sundays, October 1 & 8), but will be open for use on holiday Monday, October 9.
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Round Up
Held every year in conjunction with Community Clean Up, residents are encouraged to bring any household hazardous waste to the Recycling Centre for safe (and free) disposal. Find out more.

Staying Safe While Cleaning Up
  • Visit your site and assess it for possible hazards. What can you do to minimize any dangers?
  • What equipment do you need to clean up safely? Here is a small starter list:
    • Gloves
    • Garbage Bags (free at City Hall)
    • Rakes/Shovels
  • Will you require supervisors? If so, how many?
  • Who will take the trash to the landfill?
  • What can you recycle, instead of throw away?

  • Closely supervise your clean-up participants. Keep children and youth away from dense brush, etc.
  • Do not pick up any dangerous items, including broken glass, discarded needles, etc.
  • Remind all participants to be very careful around parked cars, in driveways, and along roads and shorelines.
  • Keep the bags fairly light. Don't overload bags in case they rip, or are too heavy to carry safely.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly at the conclusion of the project (or before eating if you break for food).
