The idea of having a WalkABle Wetaskiwin began in June 2014. A unique WalkABle workshop was held by the City of Wetaskiwin and Alberta Health Services in April 2015. The purpose of this workshop was to identify the great work already being done in our community to promote physical activity and opportunities to move forward.
A Wetaskiwin WalkABle Report
is now available to the public.
The WalkABle Wetaskiwin Committee (WWC) is a community group within the City of Wetaskiwin. Our purpose is to promote and continue to build an active lifestyle culture (such as walking, cycling, running, wheel chair use, or skating) so people can feel supported to make safe and healthy choices in Wetaskiwin. We currently have two priority areas, which include:
Promotions and Events
Currently creating a program to provide an opportunity for Wetaskiwin residents to donate funds to establish trail packages. A trail package could include concrete pads, benches, lighting, and garbage/recycling bins at By-The-Lake Park.
The Wetaskiwin Health Foundation donated funding to install our first trail package.
Installed a water bottle filler at By-The-Lake Park
Mayor and Council approved a designated area of land at By-The-Lake Park for a natural playground and outdoor classroom.
