[ARCHIVED] New Wastewater Charge Rolls Out

City of Wetaskiwin Water Tower

New Wastewater Charge Rolls Out

Local utility customers will notice a new line item on their Oct/Nov 2018 utility bill (mailed out in December). A $1 per cubic metre charge has been levied for residential customers, and a $1.25 per cubic metre charge has been levied for non-residential customers. This charge is in addition to the existing flat fee for service. The flat fee is meant to cover operational expenses, and the rate allocation collected from the consumption charge are dedicated to wastewater treatment.

You can now directly control the consumption charge on your utility bill through your usage. Historically every household paid the same consumption charge, which meant that smaller households were supplementing the increased treatment costs of larger ones.
