City crews responded quickly to contain the spill while the proper authorities were contacted to begin the clean-up process. Petro Canada has hired crews to complete all the required remediation of the solvent spill. Alberta Environment & Parks, and the City of Wetaskiwin are working together to ensure this work is completed as quickly and safely as possible.

Residents are asked to stay away from the orange fencing that surrounds the spill zone. Please ensure that pets/animals in this area are kept under control in order to avoid potential ingestion of the solvent. There are wildlife deterrent systems in place, including mock birds and noise mimicking sounds systems.

You may notice several large steel silos around the spill route, as well as traffic disruptions. Please be patient with delays in this area as workers are frequently crossing streets and moving equipment.

Further updates will be provided on the City website as the work progresses. Contact the City of Wetaskiwin's Engineering department for any immediate additional information at 780-361-4432.
