[ARCHIVED] Leashes required for all pets

dogs on leash.jpg

All public parks in the City of Wetaskiwin - including By-the-Lake Park and Peace Hills Park - are areas where pets are required to be on-leash. Failure to obey these rules can result in a fine as per City Bylaws.

There is also the growing issue of owners not picking up after their pets. This results in an unpleasant environment for those enjoying our natural areas, and is particularly bad during the spring as the snow melts. We encourage all pet owners to be responsible and clean up after their animals!

An off-leash dog park is in the works; it will be constructed at the SouthEast Industrial Park (located at 36 Street & 47 Avenue) on land set aside for this purpose. Please note that the park will not be open until 2016 at the earliest.

For more information, contact the City Protective Services Department at 780-361-4401.
