Mayor Tyler Gandam has issued a statement to mark the beginning of Black History Month. This year, Canada will mark its 28th official observance of Black History Month, and this year’s theme is “Ours to Tell.”

"As our communities grow and become more diverse, it is important to celebrate all our residents. This gives us an opportunity to learn about members of our community and be inclusive. February is Black History Month — our opportunity to learn about the contributions made by Black residents and business owners in Wetaskiwin and beyond. Wetaskiwin is a very diverse city and I am encouraged by our community’s inclusiveness and hope you take the time to learn more about Black history as we celebrate during the month of February."
— Mayor Tyler Gandam
