Mayor Tyler Gandam has issued a statement on the occasion of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:
"Each year, on September 30, we commemorate the children who never came home. We also honour those who survived, but were forever changed by the horrific experiences of Residential Schools. Families and communities were ripped apart and never the same. Today, we wear orange to show our love, our support, and our commitment to work towards Truth and Reconciliation. A small gesture with hopes that those affected by Residential Schools feel a little bit safer — at least on Orange Shirt Day."
