Garbage Collection Changes in 2021
|What: The City of Wetaskiwin is changing residential garbage collection to a 5-day per week schedule. Pick-up will be Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 3:30 PM.|
When: Second quarter of 2021. Start date is April 12, 2021.
Why: Cost savings of $40,000 to $60,000 annually. Increased departmental efficiency and improved customer service, monitoring, and safety at the landfill.
How: Some residents in the current Tuesday and Friday pick-up routes will be moved to the new Monday route. View the NEW COLLECTION ZONE MAP
At the November 9, 2020 City Council meeting, a recommendation from the Waste and Recycle department was approved by City Council to move to a 5 day per week (Monday to Friday) solid waste pick-up service, rather than the 4 day per week (Tuesday to Friday) pick-up service currently offered. *Please have you bin at the curb before 7 AM to ensure pick-up*

What does this change mean for you?
Depending on where you live in the City, your solid waste collection day will either remain the same or will be moved to a Monday pick-up. A notification will go out to affected addresses in their utility bills. View the new collection zone map.
As always, should a scheduled pick-up day fall on a statutory holiday, collection will be re-scheduled to a different day that same week. Ample notification will be given via the City website, local newspaper, and our Facebook and Twitter channels.
Do I have to do anything if I'm in the new collection area?
No. The biggest change for you as a customer will be to remember to have your garbage bin at the curb by 7 AM on Monday morning instead of your previous collection day. Check out the new collection zone map to see if your residence falls within the new Monday zone.

Changes to solid waste pick-up for mobile home parks
The City of Wetaskiwin Waste & Recycle department will be providing collection services to mobile home parks with a proposed start date towards the end of the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2021 (March to April 2021 timeframe). Private collection services will no longer be permitted as per the amendment. *Mobile home park residents will have their bin size set by park management.*
Collection for the mobile home parks will take place on Monday each week. If this collection day falls on a statutory holiday, collection will be re-scheduled to a different day that same week which will be announced via the City's Facebook and Twitter channels, local newspaper, and in the News section of the main City webpage.
